Popcorn is one of the oldest varieties of corn. It has a smaller kernel and a different shape than other corn types. There are more than a few different types of popcorn itself: regular popcorn, rainbow mix (corn kernels come in different colors), midnight blue, white huskless…
So, how do you make perfect popcorn?
It depends on what you use for popcorn. If it’s in a pan on the stove – heat the pan (or you can use a wok). Add about 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, making sure there is enough to comfortably cover the bottom. Put 2-3 kernels in the pot. When the kernels pop, add about 1/3 of the teacup popped corn kernels to the pot. After adding the popcorn kernels to the pan, remove the pan from the stove for 20-30 seconds, then put it back on the stove with the lid on. This will make all the cores the same temperature, so they will start to burst at the same time. Make sure to stir the pot (with the lid on) when the kernels start to pop. Also, gently lift the lid to let the steam escape, you can keep it that way all the time or occasionally. When you hear the last few pops (when you notice a drop in the frequency of the pops), remove the pot from the heat as soon as possible and dump the popcorn into a bowl.
If it’s in the microwave – usually there’s a “popcorn” setting on the microwave so the process is simple…Also if you’ve purchased pre-packaged popcorn for microwave use, you just put them in the microwave and select the program.
A popcorn maker is the best solution. Just follow the instructions that came with your popcorn maker and you’ll have this delicious popcorn in minutes. And while a popcorn maker is pretty cheap, it’s a kitchen accessory you should definitely consider buying.
