To build a family tree, explore the world of genetic genealogy, and truly understand your roots, Ancestry.com is perhaps the most powerful resource available in the world today. Not only does Ancestry provide you with things such as census records and death records, but you can also link your family tree to a DNA test. They have more users (18+ million) than any other DNA testing firm and they have been curating a genealogy service for years altogether. The experts at MommySavesBig have listed some easy steps to help you cancel your Ancestry Free Trial in no time.

If you want to cancel Ancestry on your own, you can choose between several options:

  • Cancel through phone
  • Unsubscribe by email
  • Cancel via the page on your account under Services

UK members can cancel on the UK website of Ancestry from their account and also cancel by filling out a contact form on the UK’s support community of Ancestry

Cancelling Ancestry by Phone

If you wish to unsubscribe by phone, call 1-800-401-3193, the toll-free number for America. The lines are open both on weekdays and over the weekend, from 9 am to 11 pm ET.

Cancelling Ancestry through Email

  • You have to send an email to support@ancestry.com
  • Give the email title as Service Cancellation
  • Provide a basis to cancel the subscription
  • Provide some information about yourself, your login credentials, and anything else that will help them know it’s you
  • When the cancellation is complete, ask them to inform you

Cancelling Ancestry Using Your Account Page

  • To open your account, click on the top-right corner of the screen
  • Select ‘Cancel Subscription’ under the Subscriptions tab.
  • Provide a justification to cancel the service at the bottom of the list.
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Hit ‘Continue to cancel’ at the bottom of the page
  • Pick ‘Cancel my membership’ at the end of the next page

If there is no Cancel membership connection on your Account settings tab, there is no membership for the account that you have signed in. You already have another Ancestry account if you’re being paid for a membership. Sign out of the account you are in and use a new email address to sign back in. Click on Contact us to find the account on which you are being billed if that doesn’t work.

If you purchased your Ancestry subscription via Apple iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play on their official app, you will have to cancel it via the same networks.

Can You Get a Refund When You Cancel Your Free Trial?

You will have to cancel a monthly subscription at least two days before the new billing cycle. You can maintain access to Ancestry’s services if you cancel, until the next renewal date when your subscription is formally terminated. You will not get compensation for a monthly contract, however.

You could be entitled to a refund if you have a subscription that has a billing duration longer than one month. To be considered, within the first 30 days of your subscription period, you must cancel your membership.

Will Your Free Trial Be Auto-Renewed Into a Paid Subscription?

Yes, Ancestry will start auto-renewing your membership each term once you begin your subscription period. You will not be charged a fee if you cancel your Ancestry Free Trial before it expires, and your account will be deactivated. You will become a paid member as soon as the free trial finishes. If this occurs, the firm will not inform you. If there are any changes to the fee rates, they will only contact you in advance. Only on your bank statement would you be able to see the fee they paid you.

One of Ancestry’s greatest concerns is that it becomes very difficult to cancel subscriptions. Nearly all of their negative reviews have something to do with the business billing someone who has obviously attempted to cancel a subscription. Some individuals have also complained that after they cancelled, Ancestry automatically transformed their free Ancestry Account into paid memberships.

Our advice is to begin your cancellation attempts much earlier than day 12. On day 9 or 10 of your free membership, you should probably begin your cancellation attempts. Without any rules getting in your way, this will give you enough time to finish your cancellation.
