We’ve all seen plasma cutters cut through metal like a heated knife through butter. A plasma cutter is a powerful tool for metal cutting, but how does it work? What is a plasma cutter?
Plasma is the fourth state of matter after gas. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines a plasma as “a collection of charged particles…containing approximately equal numbers of positive ions and electrons and exhibiting certain properties of a gas, but unlike a gas, it is a good conductor of electricity… …”. For simplicity, plasma is an electrically heated gas stream.
The same logic and physics apply to plasma cutters. Plasma cutting works by sending an ultrafast jet of hot plasma through (conducting) metal, cutting it by melting it. Plasma cutters use a gas (such as argon, nitrogen, oxygen, or a combination) through which the arc is passed to create the plasma. During this process, the plasma jet torch can reach temperatures as high as 50,000 °F! While some plasma cutters are large industrial robots surrounded by protective boxes and similar heavy-duty safety features, the most common plasma cutters are handheld devices (without any specific guards) that are manually operated by an operator.
LITAKE CUT-50 Plasma Cutter
LITAKE CUT-50 Plasma Cutter is 50Amp Non-Touch Portable Cutting Machine.
- Using IGBT inverter technology, high frequency 50/60Hz;
- Suitable for cutting steel, iron, copper, aluminum and other metal materials;
- Simple operation, easy to carry, smooth cutting surface;
- 110V can ensure 1/3″ clean cutting, 220V can ensure 2/5″ clean cutting;
- Excellent cooling system ensures better performance and durability.
Non-Contact Pilot Arc Plasma Cutter – Pilot arc technology allows you to cut without touching the tip to the metal. The CUT-50 cuts rusted, rough or painted surfaces effectively and produces very little dross during the cutting process. CUT-50 plasma cutting machine has better cutting quality and longer life of wearing parts.
Outstanding performance – 20-50 A output, 2/5″ (10mm) ideal for clean cuts and 4/7″ (14mm) maximum cut thickness at 220V; 10-35 A output, 1/3″ (8mm) Ideal for clean cuts and a maximum cut thickness of 2/5″ (10mm) at 110V. This plasma cutting machine is suitable for cutting alloy steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum and other metals.
Dual Voltage Input – This plasma cutter supports 110V/220V switching input power supply. 110V, 50/60Hz @ 35 A input; 220V, 50/60Hz @ 28 A input. The product comes with a power conversion plug, which can be plug-and-play in different environments.
Cutting Thickness – The machine is equipped with a current display. You can choose the current to match the air pressure through the cutting table mentioned in the manual, which is convenient and efficient. The current displayed at 110V is 10-35A, and the current at 220V is displayed as 10-50A. The recommended maximum cutting thickness is 8mm@35A 110V, 60PSI; 10mm@50A 220V 70PSI.
SAFE AND PORTABLE – Plasma cutters are small, lightweight and come with a handle for easy portability. The plasma cutting machine has built-in overheating protection, overvoltage protection, strong heat dissipation and good insulation. Adopt air pressure regulating device, use harmless compressed air to cut stainless steel, alloy steel, low carbon steel, copper and other metals.
