3×1, pronounced ‘three by one,’ is an NYC-based luxury denim label founded in 2011 by premium denim expert and entrepreneur Scott Morrison. The brand name, derived from denim’s standard weaving construction, the 3×1 Right Hand Twill, also alludes to Scott’s third denim concept having previously launched Paper Denim & Cloth in 1999, and Earnest Sewn in 2004, respectively. Following the success of his first premium denim concepts, Scott set out to reinvent the way people perceive and interact with denim and its design and production. In doing so, he created an experiential retail concept in Manhattan’s SoHo district. Part retail store – part factory space encased in glass, the 3×1 atelier is the physical manifestation of the brand’s core ethos – the highest quality product and design, with complete transparency into the manufacturing process. For the first time ever customers can watch their jeans being cut, sewn, and finished behind three floor to ceiling glass walls. Initially introduced solely as a retail concept, focused on making limited-edition, custom made, and bespoke denim to be sold out of the 3×1 atelier, the opportunity quickly arose to develop a limited wholesale range for a few of the world’s finest retailers. That opportunity has transformed the present day. The 3×1 collection at wholesale has reached more than 200 accounts worldwide and has expanded to include both women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections. The women’s assortment is rooted in the notion that expert design, coupled with exceptional materials and premium fabrics, will produce the most flattering jeans in the world.
